We strolled back to the hotel, and took ourselves up to the Business lounge, it was crowded with people wearing regular clothes and not so regular, and we are talking babies in PJ's, and adults in PJ's and I thought we had been transported back to Newcastle....We enjoyed a glass of wine or two before heading back to our room to watch Mrs Brown again. On entering our room we realised our mistake, we had hit the Shabbat timer and so now we had no lights, and we couldn't figure out how to reset the timer. Luckily the electrics still worked and we fired up the computer and watched Mrs. Brown in the dark.
We woke later than usual but still early compared to UK usual. We had to phone reception and get instructions on how to reset the Shabbat timer so we could have lights. That done, we had breakfast and took ourselves off for a tour around Haifa and the surrounding areas, we found some outlet shops and had a little walk, but this being Saturday and it being Shabbat only a few of the shops were open. We left the outlets and had a minor detour from our intended route, this occurred mainly because My Beloved couldn't find a roundabout or somewhere to do a U turn, so now we are heading towards Downtown, from their we went onto the South Beach area, then up and through Ramet Eshkol and then into Danya, the areas are beautiful and the views of the mountain stunning. But once again a slight detour as we were heading into the Carmel National park, this time we found a roundabout and headed back towards Danya, more beautiful housing and views, before we took ourselves back to the hotel. I have to say it is going to take me a while to get used to My Beloveds driving, for one he is on the wrong side of the car, and as such heading in the wrong direction. And two he has no sense of direction what so ever, luckily for him I have a great sense of direction and was able to direct him, mainly because when I was here in May and since arriving I have walked everywhere and I have a very good sense of where everything is.
Lunch was taken in Spoons, OMG cake, I couldn't have any though because the waitress last night scuppered my plans of a once a week treat, now I have to wait till next Friday for cake, and oh they looked lush, I settled for soup, and My Beloved had the chicken salad, now I didn't take that because I was wanting something to warm me up, how wrong can you get, the Chicken salad arrived on a platter sized plate and was hot, the chicken was lush and the crying embarrassed My Beloved so much he allowed me to share his succulent juicy salad. It is amazing to think we have been here a week already, I know I'm going to love living here, but it is funny we were walking today and My Beloved turned around as said 'I still can't believe we live in Israel'.
Shabbat and why is it celebrated?Shabbat, or “Sabbath” in English, is one of the most important holidays of the Jewish calendar. It is also referred to as Shabbos by Ashkenazi Jews. One common misconception about Shabbat is that it is viewed by many as a day of restrictions since Jews are not permitted to work on this very important day.To the Jewish community, however, the day represents a joyful celebration and well deserved rest. The reasoning behind not working on the seventh day of the week is to commemorate the belief that God, after creating everything that exists in six days, took the seventh day to rest.
