Russian Cake

Today I dragged myself out of bed threw myself out the house and along the garden, I pointed the key fob at the gate and let My Beloved out, I then crawled back to my bed, it didn't last long, I think the chocolate truffle tea is almost as good as coffee for giving you a hit.

I sorted through the house, organised the beach towels and creams and sand shoes, oh yes and the bikini, today we visit Rosh HaNikra. I woke the Little Princes around 8.30, maybe later I can't remember times, its a number thing. Once dressed and breakfasted we set off, first stop petrol, being a coward I drove around the block to the Yellow gas station as I know these guys have been very helpful with My Beloved. The gentleman filled my tank and asked if I needed my oil checked, then we were on our way.

It was a very hot drive and the traffic seemed quite heavy, although the last time I was on this route was Shabbat and very few cars are on the road during Shabbat, this should have been an indicator of what was ahead.  We drove past BIG which is an outdoor complex of shops, and what we saw was snow! it must be because of Passover, there are lots of things on for children and a huge pile of snow had been made in the pedestrian area of the complex.

We arrived at the Grottos of Rosh HaNikra and had to turn around and park a little down the road, obviously we were not the only ones that thought this would be a good idea today, we found a spot and walked up to the kiosk to buy our tickets, what a racket! I sent to the Little Princes into the shade of the shop as the heat was unbelievable, so I waited and waited, eventually one of the guides spoke with me and told me the cable car was a 30 min wait or we could take the mini bus down, so once I ate my lovely ice cream the Little Princes bought for me we decided to take the mini bus, we could see the people waiting for the cable car as we were driven down, they were all waiting in the heat on the walkway, phew I think we took the best option.

We walked around the grottos and the Princes loved the colours of the water and the caves, I was being David Bailey and getting lots of photos of the Princes, when our tour was finished we took the bus back up the hill.  We had called Dina on the way and Dina had made Russian cake for the Princes visit so we would pop over once we had hit the beach.  We drove along a couple of miles and found Achziv National park, a small area of conservation, which has a crusaders castle and lagoons for swimming. We walked through once we parked our car and paid our shekels, Israeli people know how to have a day at the beach, the BBQ's were on the go, the little two man tents were popped up all around the grass, the smell of the BBQ's was very tempting, we walked through the site to the beach and found ourselves a sandy spot, the Princes changed and headed for the lagoons, me I bathed my body in the sun, you may find this difficult to believe but I didn't come to Israel for the food, its the sun I was looking for.....

We spent a lovely afternoon, laying in the sun and the Princes playing in the water, they are never happier than when they are in the water, Yabba then settled down for a top up on the tan, which obviously made Kitty do the same. The lagoons were beautiful and made the sea look spectacular behind them. 4pm arrived and we decided to call it a day and head to Dina's for her Russian cake.

One little detour and we were in Kiryat Motzkin and outside Dina's house, Dina welcomed us into her home, Jason was away at his Granny's in Ashkelon for a few days so Dina is making the most of her time.  Dina entertained the Princes and they laughed and laughed at her stories, Dina is such a lovely lady, and full of life and laughter.  Her introduction to the Russian cake was 'This is a Russian cake, made by your new friend who looks Korean', the Princes chuckled away, whilst drinking tea and eating cake, then schnitzles were cooked and we all ate schnitzels with salad and bulgar wheat.

Yevgeny arrived back from work just after 6, and the Princes were introduced to their new Russian friend who looks Russian, except with panda bear eyes, safety first, Zheni always wears his safety glasses at work, and this has resulted in panda eyes. We had a lovely evening laughing and joking with Dina and Zheni, Dina was telling us how having traveled to Ashkelon they had managed to leave a ruck sack on the train, now being in Israel the security is very, very intense, and Dina was telling the Princes she would probably be thrown in the jail for trying to get her rucksack back, either that or they will have blown it up.

We left Dina and Zheni's house around 7.30 and headed home. Itzhak had called just as we were leaving the beach to say the man from Tel Aviv was fixing the door, one little screw and everything goes Pete Tong, but it would be sorted by the time we got home, thank goodness we had to get Kitty to put down the automatic blinds this morning, leaving a Kitty sized gap for her to get out, we had to leave the patio door open, and put chairs against the door to block it from view, not that anyone can see the door, as it is above street level.

My Beloved was home when we got back, can you believe after eating half a Russian cake, and schnitzels and drinking tea an hour before the Princes still wanted supper, I left them to it, they changed and went out with My Beloved whilst I took the time to sort the washing and tidy the house, I spent a lovely couple of hours puddling around alone.

The Little Princes and My Beloved went to The Bear bar, they ate burgers, and classic shrimps and My Beloved took the liver pate, and arrived back around 10pm.
